1월 January

January는 로마의 신 야누스(Janus)의 이름에서 유래했습니다. 야누스는 두개의 얼굴을 갖고 있어서 과거와 미래를 볼수있습니다. 야누스는 (출입)문의 신이기도합니다.
January is named after the Roman god Janus. As you can see in this print, he had two faces so he could see the future and the past! He was also the god of doors.




2월 February

February는 Februa라고 불리는 고대 로마의 정화의 축제에서 유래했습니다.
February is named after an ancient Roman festival of purification called Februa.



3월 March

March는 로마 전쟁의 신 Mars에서 유래했습니다. 로마인의 달력은 원래 March에서 시작했는데, 달력이 바뀌면서 나중에 January 과 February이 추가되어 지금과 같게 되었습니다.
March is named after Mars, the Roman god of war. The Roman calendar originally began in March, and the months of January and February were added later, after a calendar reform.



4월 April

April는 라틴어 aperire에서 유래했습니다.이 단어는 "aperire" "열다"라는 뜻입니다. (마치 꽃이 봄을 여는 것처럼) . 로마인들은 그 달을 Aprilis라고 불렀습니다.
April takes its name from the Latin word aperire, meaning ‘to open’ (just like flowers do in spring!). The Romans called the month Aprilis.


5월 May

May는 그리스여신 마이아(maia)에서 유래했습니다. 마이아(Maia)는 유모라는 뜻으로 마이아에 바치는 달이었습니다.
May is named after the Greek goddess Maia.

6월 June

June은 결혼과 출산의 신인 로마 여신 주노의 이름을 따서 지었으며 신들의 왕인 주피터의 아내입니다.
June is named after the Roman goddess Juno – the god of marriage and childbirth, and the wife of Jupiter, king of the gods.

7월,8월 July and August

7월과 8월은 고대 로마 세계의 두 주요 인물 – 율리우스 카이사르(줄리어스 시저)와 로마의 초대 황제 아우구스투스의 이름을 따서 지었습니다.
July and August were named after two major figures of the ancient Roman world – the statesman Julius Caesar and Rome’s first emperor, Augustus.

9월,10월,11월,12월 September, October, November and December

9월, 10월, 11월, 12월은 로마 숫자 7, 8, 9, 10에서 따온 이름입니다– 원래 로마 해의 7, 8, 9, 10번째 달이었습니다! 7월과 8월에 로마의 통치자들의 이름이 들어오기 전에는 5월과 6월을 의미하는 Quintilis 와 Sextilis 로 불렀습니다.
September, October, November and December are named after Roman numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10 – they were originally the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth months of the Roman year! Before July and August were renamed after Roman rulers, they were called Quintilis and Sextilis, meaning fifth and sixth months.
